Highlight Projects

At ConocoPhillips, I was part of a group called Emerging Technologies. The team was responsible for scouting the technology landscape for any hardware, software or other tech tools. We reviewed space, military and consumer products for connecting its function to be used in energy production equipment and administrative workflows. It was definitely exciting to explore all the latest gadgets. We were one of the first companies to test Google Glass and created an app for oil rig engineers to visually identify components and Glass would scan the parts for details to quickly make informed decisions. I also introduced a design system at a time when they were first being adopted in the field.

IT Enterprise Accomplishments

This internal site served as a reporting tool showcasing the accomplishments of the global IT sector. After conducting interviews with leaders across various departments, I developed a strategic approach to organizing the navigation. A central globe provided users with intuitive access to sub-category locations, while the surrounding navigational icons highlighted departmental achievements. Additionally, a lower navigation bar categorized accomplishments by technology type. Beyond designing the user experience, I created all visual assets, including sourcing icons for each category—a process that was both enjoyable and creatively challenging.

ConocoPhillips Well Launcher App

The “before” screen on the left highlights the challenge of transforming an existing app designed for petroleum engineers. This process involved gaining a high-level understanding of complex mathematical formulas and scientific principles and translating them into a more intuitive design for a new app. Feedback on the new app was overwhelmingly positive, as it enabled less experienced employees to quickly learn and utilize the tool effectively. Additionally, I created comprehensive onboarding documentation to support users in adapting to the new system.

ConocoPhillips First Design System

This first design system for ConocoPhillips included nearly every control a developer needed at the time of its inception. From forms and tables to UI components like date pickers and jQuery sliders, it offered a comprehensive toolkit. Built on the latest version of Bootstrap available at the time, it was both highly adaptable and widely usable.

I also provided a blank shell to developers for a foundational starting point, complete with a basic framework and navigation. These tools established a strong foundation for maintaining consistent design standards across the organization while significantly reducing development time, ensuring developers didn’t have to repeatedly build common features from scratch.
